DICTIONARY ENGLISH-ACHUAR CHICHAM
The language spoken by the Achuar indigenous group is called Achuar-chicham and it is classified inside the Jivaroan Language Family. There are other languages related to the Achuar-chicham that are classified inside the same Family, as the Shuar-chicham, Shiwiar-chicham, Aguaruna and Huambusa. The languages of this family are spoken mainly in the western forests of Peru and Ecuador.
Virtually every Achuar can also speak the Kichwa language, as it was introduced to the area by the Spanish as a vehicular language (lingua franca) during the conquest.
